University of Pittsburgh

Mission Statement

The medical school's three-fold mission is 1) to provide world-class health care in Western Pennsylvania, 2) to train physicians and biomedical scientists who will become models of excellence in their fields, and 3) to conduct ground breaking biomedical research.

At present 317 PhD students, 63 masters and certificate students and 585 MD students are registered in the School of Medicine.  These numbers reflect our strong institutional commitment to research education.

Within the School of Medicine, the Office of Graduate Studies is responsible for oversight of all graduate training programs.  The Graduate Office coordinates admissions, program administration, and student support services by working closely with graduate students, the faculty and programs, other schools within the University and the Provost.  The Graduate Office's first priority is to advocate and protect the interests of graduate students in our programs.  We are here for you.
