University of Pittsburgh

Overview

Campus Life and Community

Thriving amidst the echoes of an industrial past, Pittsburgh is a vibrant urban center rich in ethnic tradition and diverse religious cultures. A tour through the city reveals a patchwork of distinctive neighborhoods. Visit the ethnic groceries, open-air produce markets, and artisan shops of the Strip District, or explore the urban appeal of the historic Victorian row houses of the Mexican War Streets. Pittsburgh neighborhoods—each distinct in character but sharing the city-wide value of personal connection—define the city.

Not only is it inexpensive to rent a spacious apartment or even buy a house in Pittsburgh, as a graduate student you can experience all of Pittsburgh’s lively culture, championship sports, and nightlife hotspots on a grad student budget. A valid Pitt ID gets you free or heavily discounted admission into many of Pittsburgh’s very accessible cultural and sporting events. Even better, your Pitt ID can get you there fare-free via a Port Authority bus! We've included a few of our favorite links below for you to explore.
